Energy for the Future – Transitgas AG supports the sustainable renovation of the Gelmer Hut
Project funding from July 2025 to June 2026
The Gelmer Hut is located in the heart of the mountain landscape of the Grimsel region, nestled above the upper Dietcher and 7.5 km from the municipality of Guttannen – the last village before the Grimsel Pass summit. The Transitgas transport system also runs through this area.
Energy Supply and Refurbishment of the Small Hydropower Plant
In 2025, Transitgas AG is supporting the energy renovation of the Gelmer Hut. The project, led by the SAC Brugg Section, includes the renewal, regulation, and control of the small hydropower plant as part of the overall refurbishment. The plant ensures the hut’s electricity supply.
Renovation Requires Careful Planning and Financial Resources
Construction activities under these conditions had to be carefully planned and budgeted. The SAC Brugg Section committed to this project through a long-term process, with numerous volunteers contributing essential work. At the same time, the project team relies on professional implementation by specialized experts. In addition to funding from Transitgas AG, the SAC Brugg Section is also supported by other organizations.
Modern Operation and Long-Term Perspective
Transitgas AG is supporting the renovation project with financial backing, as it aligns perfectly—both thematically and geographically—with its sustainability funding strategy. The combination of technical innovation, regional roots, personal commitment, and ecological impact played a key role in the project’s selection. The renovated hut is scheduled to reopen in summer 2026, coinciding with the 100th anniversary celebration.
