Pollination and Biodiversity: Bees – the Silent Heroes of Climate Protection

In 2025, Transitgas AG is supporting the “Bee Magic” event, which is organized and curated annually by the Lucerne Bee Days Association. The spotlight is on bees and their essential contribution to the environment. The event is aimed at the general public and offers a rich program that showcases the full range of bees’ creative power.
How Pollination Contributes to CO₂ Sequestration
Without bees, plants such as apples, almonds, tomatoes, and countless others would disappear. But their impact goes even further: by pollinating wild plants, bees help preserve biodiversity and stabilize ecosystems. As natural climate protectors, bees contribute to CO₂ sequestration. By pollinating flowers, they enable plants to reproduce, fostering the growth of new biomass. Trees, shrubs, and wild plants continuously store carbon in their roots, trunks, and leaves through this process – a natural way of capturing CO₂ over the long term.
The Most Important Pollinators Are Under Pressure
Wild and honeybees around the world are under enormous pressure – and bee populations in the canton of Lucerne are no exception. Shrinking habitats, changing climate conditions, pesticides, parasites, and the dramatic decline in bee populations are exacerbating the crisis. To counteract this, targeted knowledge transfer, awareness-raising events, and practical empowerment are essential.
Pollination, Biodiversity, and Awareness
The “Bee Magic” event plays a key role in raising awareness about the importance of bees and presents practical solutions. It targets the general public and combines education with hands-on experiences. In addition to an interactive exhibition booth on CO₂ reduction through bees, there will be workshops, lectures, and a special exhibition.

This partnership helps reach more people and generate lasting impact. The project was selected through a criteria-based process. Key factors included its strong relevance to climate protection, its wide regional reach, and the methodological and educational quality of the planned formats.
