| Transitgas AG is a company whose purpose is the construction, property, maintenance and operation of a natural gas transport system stretching from the northern to the southern border of Switzerland. Transitgas AG constructs and operates this transport system which includes a compressor station, various valve stations as well as a metering station on Swiss territory. The company has ceded the utilization of its facilities to Eni SpA and Swissgas AG by means of a lease agreement.
The Transitgas pipeline is the Swiss section of the natural gas high-pressure pipeline connecting the natural gas fields of northern Europe with Italy. The pipeline has been a significant source of natural gas for whole Switzerland. At the same time, it enables Italy to diversify its sources to procure natural gas. Beyond this, the pipeline serves as a connecting force of different countries with the same objectives and interests such as the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, France, Switzerland and Italy. |
